12.05.2023. Port Limeni-Kalamata.

The wind has dropped but small waves continue to enter
the bay and Hera II is moving a little. I sleep well but Jens can't sleep
because of these movements. He therefore moved and went to sleep in the aft
cabin. This morning, it's all calm and Hera II has the bow again towards the
bottom of the bay. We leave at 10 a.m. and on leaving I take several pictures
of houses here that have a particular style as I said yesterday. I went to see
on Wikipedia these “Maniots”, the inhabitants of the region here. They had an
extreme vendetta system that spanned generations and were fierce soldiers. If
they were attacked by outsiders, they united and forgot their internal
struggles, but as soon as the outsiders withdrew, they resumed their vendettas.
Their capital was Yithion where we were a few days ago. Alright, back to today.
We're only sailing with the jib, at low speed, but we have time and I can do
the blog on the way. We arrive in Kalamata at 2:15 p.m. A marinero shows us our
place and helps us to moor. We came to this marina in June 2016 with Maja and
from there we left directly for Malta. Coffee and a little rest and we ride to
the beach. Kalamata has miles of bike paths and it's nice. Few people on the
beach, it is gray but the water is good. On the way back we take a long detour
to look for the market where we will go tomorrow and we find it, it is not
difficult it is straight, but it is at least 3 km from the marina. We stop to
admire a pole vaulting competition and a little further guess that a political
meeting is that of the Communist Party, red flags are flying everywhere. We
return, we rest a little and leave for dinner. We had eaten well in 2016 at a
small taverna near the market but it is a bit vague. We go to one that looks
good and where there are people. And it's actually very good and original, it's
a Turkish restaurant. Instead of the eternal fries, Jens has mashed sweet
potatoes and I have mashed eggplant. We return around 10 p.m., the city is
still lively, many people are walking around.
