O5.04.2023. Preveza-Poros.

Encore froid, 10 ˚ ce matin. Jens dit qu’on devrait avoir des “kjeledress” (nos combinaisons chaudes fourrées que nous utilisons en Norvège)! Hera II doit être mise à l’eau à 8 h 30, et à 8 h 25 il se met à pleuvoir, fort. Les gars arrivent quand même, bien équipes en cirés. Mise à l’eau sans problèmes. Un mécanicien et Jens vérifient encore le moteur, tout va bien. Nous partons à 9 h 30 et allons tout de suite vers le sud. Il y a peu de vent mais de vieilles vagues du sud, donc dans le nez sur le canal de Preveza. Puis nous tournons est vers l’entrée du canal de Lefkas et là, nous les avons sur le côté. Hera II, ayant une longue quille, roule beaucoup. Mais un marin breton nous a dit, une fois : « Bateau rouleur, bateau marcheur ». Nous sommes un peu en avance pour l’ouverture du pont flottant et nous nous amarrons sur un beau vieux bateau en bois. Le pont pivote à 11 h et nous sommes trois voiliers à passer. Nous continuons direct sud, longeons Ithaca et Céphalonie par l’est. Peu de vent et mer assez calme. Nous profitons d'un endroit calme et assez ouvert pour calibrer l'auto-pilote. Il nous dit lui-même ce qu'il faut faire. Il nous dit de tourner et nous faisons deux grands ronds dans l'eau. Puis nous lui donnons un cap et il indique "Learning", il apprend. Il apprend en 27 étapes. cela prend du temps mais après, il marche. Nous essayons aussi le nouveau foc et cela va bien. Quand nous sommes dehors, nous somme emmitouflés comme en plein hiver. J’ai : un T-shirt, ma nouvelle veste bleue, mon anorak mauve et mon ciré (les deux pièces) ! Et nous avons froid aux mains. Et pourtant nous sommes à « Syden » (au Sud), comme disent les Norvégiens. C’est assez calme pour que je puisse faire le blog en route. Nous arrivons au port de Poros, au sud-est de Céphalonie (voir carte) à 18 h 30. Un seul voilier est dans le port et nous pouvons nous mettre le long du quai. Ankerdram (petit verre pour fêter notre arrivée) et promenade. Nous connaissons Poros, nous y sommes venus avec notre Maja et aussi avec Hera II. Il est tard, nous sommes fatigués … nous allons diner en ville. Nous sommes les seuls clients et la jeune femme est aimable. Jens prend du poisson et moi, j’ai honte de l’avouer, je prends un hamburger. C’est bon mais trop copieux. La dame nous offre un petit cornet de glace à chacun. Quand nous sortons du restaurant, il pleut. Juste en face, un supermarché est encore ouvert, et oui, bien sûr, ils ont des parapluies. Nous rentrons donc secs au bateau. Bonne première journée de navigation.

Still cold, 10˚ this morning. Jens says we should have “kjeledress” (our warm furry coveralls we use in Norway)! Hera II is due to be launched at 8:30 a.m., and at 8:25 a.m. it starts to rain, heavily. The guys arrive anyway, well equipped in raincoats. Launching without problems. A mechanic and Jens check the engine again, everything is fine. We leave at 9:30 a.m. and head straight south. There is little wind but old waves from the south, so in the nose, on the Preveza channel. Then we turn east towards the entrance to the Lefkas Canal, there we have them on the side. Hera II, having a long keel, is rolling a lot. But a Breton sailor once told us: “Roller boat, good boat”. We are a little early for the opening of the floating bridge and we moor on a beautiful old wooden boat. The bridge pivots at 11 a.m. and we are three yachts to pass. We continue directly south, folowing the east coast of Ithaca and Kefalonia. Little wind and fairly calm sea. We take advantage of a calm and open place to calibrate the autopilot. It tells us what to do. He tells us to turn and we make two large circles in the water. Then we give it a heading and it says "Learning". He learns in 27 steps. it takes time but then it works.We are trying out the new jib and it is going well. When we are outside, we are bundled up like in the middle of winter. I have: a T-shirt, my new blue jacket, my purple anorak and my oilskin (both pieces)! And our hands are cold. And yet we are in "Syden" (in the South), as the Norwegians say. It’s quiet enough for me to blog on the way. We arrive at the port of Poros, southeast of Kefalonia (see map) at 6:30 p.m. Only one sailboat is in the port and we can put ourselves along the quay. Ankerdram (small drink to celebrate our arrival) and walk. We know Poros, we came there with our Maja and also with Hera II. It's late, we're tired… we're going to dinner in town. We are the only customers and the young woman is friendly. Jens takes fish and I, I'm ashamed to admit it, I take a hamburger. It's good but too filling. The lady offers us each a little ice cream cone. When we leave the restaurant, it is raining. Just opposite, a supermarket is still open, and yes, of course, they have umbrellas. So we go back dry to the boat. Good first day of sailing.
