28.03.203. Tirana (Albanie).
Mardi 28 mars 2023
Irene me montre
guident. Arrivée sans problème à l’hôtel à 21 h. De la fenêtre de notre chambre
nous voyons l’Acropole, pas mal.
Tuesday, March 28, 2023
The weather's nice. The conference starts at 9 a.m.
but registration starts at 8 a.m. It's on the first floor here in the hotel. I
go with Jens and greet Edmond, Irene, Anila and Migena whom I had met in
September 2022. Then I leave them to work and go for a walk. Always
"impressed" by the number of pharmacies, in 100m there can be three.
I did not take any photos this time, I had taken some in September. I go to the
international bookshop and, as we have to spend our last “lekë”, I buy a book,
the memoirs of a little Albanian girl who lives the last moments of the
communist dictatorship. It’s called “Free” by Lea Ypi. At 10:45 a.m., I return
to the conference, Jens speaks at 11:00 a.m. Before him is an old, old
gentleman reading a report on the largest earthquakes in Albania and the United
States. When Jens starts out, he looks, by contrast, young and dynamic. It's
very technical and I don't understand much, but, after, several people come to
tell him that it was clear and very interesting. The professor who was supposed
to speak after Jens is not there, her flight from Paris was canceled due to
strikes and protests. Then it's lunch and I have the right to go too. Very nice
room, large round tables and good food. The conference resumes at two o'clock
and until then I stay with Edmond, Irene and Jens. Irene shows me a video of
Livia dancing, first alone and then with a group, traditional Albanian dances.
She has been dancing for several years and she is very “flink” (Norwegian for
very good, competent, expert…). I let them work, go have a coffee at our
caravan café and then go home. There was a misunderstanding between Edmond and
Jens and Jens thought the conference was Monday through Tuesday, but in fact it
is Tuesday through Wednesday. All reservations were made and he did not change
them. So we take the plane this afternoon for Athens. At 3 a.m., a car from the
hotel takes us to the airport. The driver speaks good English. He explains to
us that his boss declares only part of his salary and gives him the difference
in cash to pay less taxes and made him understand that if he is not happy with
that he can go find work elsewhere. We leave under the sun and arrive in Athens
under pouring rain. The Greek sun will be for another time. But it's not
raining anymore, luckily, when we go to pick up the rental car. I drive and
Jens and the GPS guide me. Arrived without problem at the hotel at 9 p.m. From
our bedroom window we can see the Acropolis, not bad.
